L.A. Live is INCREDIBLE! Since 2007, I'd walk past it from the parking lot to Staples Center and it would just be under construction. Now, it's humongous and has all of these restaurants and high tech screens. It's crackin!
Paper Route went on at 7pm. They had a tiny drum set. At one point, someone was playing it, another was playing the regular drums, and then another was playing digital drums. The lead singer's mannerisms reminded me of Nicky T of V Factory. He was skinny and wore his trucker hat backwards.
Lights started at 8pm. She is so adorable! Some fan had a sign that read, "Now that we're engaged, cyber wife, we can get married at the cathedral of lights." She saw, laughed, and also mentioned World of Warcraft. Her band consists of her, a drummer and keyboard player. No guitar? Her drummer is cool though. "Ice" is a really cool song. She sings super fast during the bridge!
Finally, they were setting up for Owl City. The guy sound checking all the mics was the same guy in front of me on the escalators on my way into Club Nokia. I took a picture of his all access pass (I was stealth like a ninja).
Adam came out at 9pm. He played the drums, the band came out, he moved to the mic. It was totally out for the first verse and chorus of "Umbrella Beach." His set list was fun song, slow song, fun song, slow song. I know the fun songs more because I listen to the slow songs less.
"Hot Air Balloon" was AWESOME!! He threw a toothbrush to the audience during "Dental Care." Security was being strict on recording, but when the "song about bugs," aka "Fireflies," came on, EVERYONE had their cameras up. At the end of "Vanilla Twilight," Adam mouthed, "Take me with you!"
Outside, the guys of Paper Route were selling their CD.
We ended the day at In-N-Out because Adam mentioned it between songs.
